Frequently Asked Questions
-
Sessions are by appointment only and a variety of appointment times can be available including nights and weekends. As you can imagine, appointments after regular working hours fill up the fastest and are not always available.
Many clients can slip out for an hour or so during the day, particularly for telehealth appointments. Some people show up to work an hour early, stay an hour late, or eat lunch in session.
If needed, I am happy to provide you with a note excusing you from work or school.
-
Most sessions are 45-60 minutes. Longer or shorter sessions are available upon request if needed when discussed in advance.
-
Debit and Credit are the primary forms of payment. However, in some cases you may be able to use your HSA card.
I am happy to provide you with a monthly Superbill to submit to your insurance company to obtain reimbursement. If you are unsure about your health plan’s claim procedure, I encourage you to contact your insurance company.
You will be able to pay for your services directly through the Client Portal.

Choosing to pay privately (without insurance) helps to ensure your utmost confidentiality and privacy when working together. I do not need to release your records to any third party without your consent. Also, when using your insurance, I must diagnose you with a mental health condition that will become part of your medical record. If you choose to pay privately, information about the nature of your treatment and the issues discussed in sessions will remain solely between you and I. Thus, it is important to consider which option you prefer and are most comfortable with prior to selecting a provider and beginning treatment.
-
My private pay rates are competitive to the area served and the services provided. I am a clinician with years of post-graduate education, training, and credentials. Rates take into consideration my education, training, experience. Please note that payment is due at the time of service.

Yes. All therapy sessions will be offered via telehealth appointments at this time. You can access the HIPAA-compliant platform through the client portal. We can also arrange a session by phone if that is your preference.
You will need a stable Internet connection/ cell service + a private place to hold your session. Many clients also prefer using a headset.

The length of time therapy takes varies for each client and is influenced by the presenting problem as well as the goals of the counseling process. I prefer to see clients on a regular basis for the first several months to develop an accurate understanding of who you are and your developmental history as well as understand your needs and formulate a specific treatment plan. Once we feel that progress has been made or your symptoms have improved, we can reduce frequency of treatment as needed.

COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE!
Some information to consider:
Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies that are different from talking to a friend or family member. They can provide a non-biased, educated perspective on a difficult problem you may have or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how much you put into the process and practice what you learn.
If you’d like we can set aside some time to discuss your specific situation or reservations via a free in person or virtual ‘Coffee Break Consultation’

While my ideal client is a woman in her mid twenties to mid forties, I am open to working with men, teenagers, and children. It may be beneficial to set up an initial consultation (Coffee Break Consultation) to see if I might be a good fit for you/your child based on my experience and my approaches to treatment.
If not, perhaps I can steer you in the direction of someone else who may be a better fit!
-
I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs, and therefore no two sessions are alike. In general, you can expect to discuss the current happenings in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and report progress (or any new insights gained) from the previous therapy session or outside of your session. I like to utilize research, exercises, books, and other resources in our session and I usually have you work on these skills outside of therapy. By the time our journey is completed together, the goal is that you are able to successfully navigate obstacles on your own, without the need for a counselor.
-
It is important to understand that you will obtain more significant results from therapy if you actively participate in and commit to the process. This includes taking chances, being open, showing up on time and attending sessions regularly, doing the homework and being patient as you allow the process to work. Sometimes it takes months to unlearn a bad habit… but imagine how many years you’ve spent developing some of the problematic habits, insecurities, or negative self-talk that may be keeping you from reaching your goals. The purpose of therapy is to educate and help you to bring what you learn back into your life so you don’t need counseling anymore! Beyond the work we do in your therapy sessions, I am a big advocate for implementation of techniques and homework outside of our sessions together. Since our session is only roughly 50 minutes long, the fastest way to see a positive change is to start implementing these skills into your daily life immediately.

A ‘Coffee Break Consultation’ is a FREE virtual OR in person discussion to go over your goals for therapy and ultimately determine if I would be a good fit for you! It helps us get to know each other before our initial session which is limited to telehealth at this time. (I know sometimes virtual sessions can make it hard to connect with a new person).
***In person consultations will be offered to local clients only and held on designated days of the month at a pre-determined public location. When you make your initial inquiry by emailing me at randi@refinedwellness.org or submitting an inquiry form, let me know that you are interested in engaging in an in person consult and we can go from there to coordinate.
